Kitchen designs South Africa: Prices from R50,000 to R1 million [With pictures]

You’ve decided that you need to renovate your kitchen. You’ve set a budget and have contacted a few kitchen contractors to gather quotes for the job. The only problem? It’s difficult to know exactly how much kitchen you should expect to get for your money.

While there are plenty of resources that give you information about the cost of renovating a kitchen, it can be challenging to visualise exactly what you could get for the amount you plan to spend.

To help you figure out what you should expect to pay for different sizes and styles of kitchens, we’ve gathered a few kitchens that were renovated for different price points to show you what to expect when searching for kitchen design prices in South Africa.

Kitchen price: R50,000 to R75,000

Smaller, simpler kitchens will generally fall into this price range. Here, you’ll be looking at finishes like Melamine, postform countertops, stainless steel tapware as well as popular handles and knobs.

That said, understanding what you want for your space can help you to plan better – which will ensure you make the most of your renovation budget. Knowing where to save and where to splurge will give you the space to upgrade some fixtures and fittings while staying in the R50,000 to R75,000 range.

Take a look at a few examples of Select-a-Kitchen installations that fall into this price bracket:

Kitchen price: R75,000 to R100,000

This price range covers small to medium-sized kitchens. Smaller spaces will have more high-end finishes (think wrap doors, granite counters and trendy hardware), while medium-sized kitchens will tend to have standard fittings and finishes.

Here are a few Select-a-Kitchen installations that fall into this price range:

Kitchen price: R100,000 to R150,000

A small kitchen with all the bells and whistles could set you back up to R150,000. However, you’re more likely to be working with a medium (±15sqm) to large (20sqm+) space.

Again, the price of your kitchen will vary depending on the size of the space and the finishes you choose. Medium kitchens in this range will have more luxurious finishes, while larger spaces will have simpler fittings and fixtures.

Here are some of our favourite installations that fall into the R100,000 to R150,000 price range:

Kitchen price: R150,000 to R300,000

Generally, fully kitted medium-sized kitchens and mid-range large kitchens with sculleries will fall into the R150,00 to R300,000 price range. Spray cabinets and marble or solid wood countertops are pretty much standard for this budget category, but prices will vary drastically depending on the fittings you choose.

Due the amount you’ll need for your space, items like tapware, sinks, handles and runners will have a big impact on the look, feel and price of your kitchen. As we’ve already mentioned, you can moderate the cost of your renovation by choosing where to splurge and save in these spaces.

Take a peek at some Select-a-Kitchen installations that fall into this price range:

Kitchen price: R300,000 to R500,000

It’s relatively easy for a larger kitchen with luxe fittings and fixtures to cost upwards of R300,000. In this category, you’ll have luxe finishes (think spray cabinets, marble countertops and ceramic sinks) that give your space that ‘Pinterest’ look.

Here’s a Select-a-Kitchen installation that falls into the R300,000 to R500,000 price bracket:

Kitchen price: R500,000+

This may seem like a big price tag for a kitchen, but these installations will feature luxury finishes, high-end fittings and fixtures, plus top-of-the-range appliances.

Silky soft spray cabinetry, pocket doors, and soft-close hinges and runners are just the beginning. Kitchens in this price bracket will usually have bespoke, real-wood cabinet and drawer inserts, integrated appliances, and state-of-the-art tapware.

Kitchens of this value are relatively rare. However, you can take a peek at an installation we recently completed for one of our clients:
